The forthcoming Dodgers event honoring a group that mocks women religious, and worse, desecrates the Cross, profanes the Eucharist, and disrupts Holy Mass has caused disappointment, dismay, and pain in our Catholic community, as well as among our fellow Christians and people of good will. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles stands for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which means we stand against any form of bigotry, hate, or sacrilege.
The Archdiocese calls on Catholics to stand together in prayer. The hurt on our hearts can only be healed by the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Likewise, we can be set on fire by his love to witness to the sacred truth, goodness, and beauty of our faith with conviction and courage.
We invite all parishes to pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Friday, June 16, the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, at Mass or during a Holy Hour with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Additionally, in the days ahead of this special moment of prayer, we encourage parishes to include the petitions provided below in the Prayer of the Faithful at daily and Sunday Masses.

El próximo evento de los Dodgers que tiene planeado rendirle honor a un grupo que se burla de hermanas religiosas, y peor aún, profana la Cruz y profana la Eucaristía ha causado decepción, consternación y dolor en nuestra comunidad católica, así como entre nuestros hermanos cristianos y la gente de buena voluntad. Invitamos a todas las parroquias a rezar las Letanías del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús el viernes 16 de junio, la Solemnidad del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, en la Misa o durante una Hora Santa con Exposición del Santísimo Sacramento. Además, enanticipación a esta observación de oración especial, animamos todas las parroquias a incluir en la Oración de los Fieles durante las Misas diarias y dominicales las peticiones provistas.

Prayer of the Faithful
For those who suffer because of their faithfulness to the Gospel, that they be assured of Jesus’ faithfulness to them, let us pray to the Lord. // Por los que sufren a causa de su fidelidad al Evangelio, para que tengan la certeza de la fidelidad de Jesús hacia ellos, roguemos al Señor.
For all Christians, that they return good for evil and forgive those who offend them, let us pray to the Lord. // Por todos los cristianos, para que paguen bien por mal y perdonen a quienes los ofenden, roguemos al Señor.
For the Church, that she be inspired by the Holy Spirit to bear witness to the truth, goodness, and beauty of the Christian faith with courage, let us pray to the Lord. // Para que nuestra Iglesia sea inspirada por el Espíritu Santo a dar un testimonio de valentía sobre la verdad, la bondad y la belleza de la fe cristiana, roguemos al Señor.
For the Church, that she stand against all forms of bigotry, hate, and sacrilege while upholding the dignity of the human person, let us pray to the Lord. // Para que nuestra Iglesia se oponga a todas las formas de intolerancia, odio y sacrilegio mientras defiende la dignidad de la persona humana, roguemos al Señor.
For women religious, that they remain firm in their resolve to witness to the love of God in their service to the needy, let us pray to the Lord. // Por las mujeres religiosas, para que ellas se mantengan firmes en su determinación de dar testimonio al amor de Dios en su servicio a los más necesitados, roguemos al Señor.
For all victims of discrimination or oppression, that they know the consolation and healing of Jesus amid their suffering, let us pray to the Lord. // Por todas las víctimas de discriminación y opresión, para que en medio de sus sufrimientos conozcan el consuelo y la sanación que proviene de Jesús, roguemos al Señor.
For all people who do not know Jesus Christ, that the Holy Spirit open their hearts to his presence and love, let us pray to the Lord. // Para que el Espíritu Santo abra los corazones de todas las personas que no conocen la presencia y el amor de Jesucristo, roguemos al Señor.
For all members of the Church, that the Spirit of the Lord be upon them to announce good news to the poor and to heal the brokenhearted, let us pray to the Lord. // Para que el Espíritu del Señor esté sobre todos los miembros de nuestra Iglesia y que así se anuncie la buena nueva a los pobres y se realice la sanación de los quebrantados de corazón, roguemos al Señor.

Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), and Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan of New York, chairman of the USCCB’s Committee for Religious Liberty, joined by Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles, have called on Catholics to pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart, and make an act of reparation—an act offered to the Lord with the intention of repairing the spiritual damage inflicted by sin.
