There are 76 parishes in this region and eight cities besides Los Angeles. They include Beverly Hills, Culver City, Inglewood, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Venice and West Hollywood. It covers Deaneries 13-16 and has 4 Parochial Missions.
“La Placita,” Our Lady Queen of Angels, was the first church founded in Los Angeles in 1784. The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels was dedicated in 2002 and has become the cultural center of the city.
Ethnic Masses in various parishes are celebrated by African Americans, and in Arabic, Chinese, Tagalog, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese.
Three parishes have parochial missions – El Santo Niño, St. Turibius and San Conrado. There are 10 high schools, 2 houses of religious formation for priests, 1 retreat center and 1 cemetery.
Eastern Catholic churches in the region include Ukrainian, Byzantine, Maronite, and also present are Ethnic Parishes – Croatian, Chinese, Lithuanian, Japanese and Italian. The region is home to over 1 million Catholics.
The Most Reverend Matthew G. Elshoff, OFM Cap is the regional auxiliary bishop of the Our Lady of the Angels (OLA) Pastoral Region. The succession for the region includes Rev. Msgr. Terrance Fleming (March 2022-September 2023), Most Rev. Edward Wm. Clark (2001-2022), Msgr. Lloyd Torgerson (Episcopal Vicar, 1999-2001), Bishop Stephen Blaire (1994-1999), and Bishop John Ward (1986-1994).

Most Reverend Matthew G. Elshoff, OFM Cap
Born September 24, 1955 in Cincinnati, Ohio but grew up in the Crescenta-Cañada Valley of Los Angeles. Bishop Elshoff entered the Capuchin Franciscan Order in 1973; professed solemn vows in 1980 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1982. As a Capuchin, he served as Vocation Director, Campus Minister and teacher at St. Francis High School, (1982-1989); Vice Master of Novices, (1989-1992); returning to St. Francis High School he was appointed President (1993-2008); elected Definitor (1999-2005), Provincial Minister (2008-2014) He took a sabbatical year in Mexico and was appointed Pastor of Old Mission Santa Ines in Solvang (2015) and in January of 2018 at St. Lawrence Brindisi in Los Angeles. On September 26, 2023 he was ordained Bishop at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. That same day he was appointed Episcopal Vicar of the Our Lady of the Angels Pastoral Region.
