Once the two first phases have been completed the catechist needs to:
- Do two observations to experience and be enriched by other certified catechists.
- Be evaluated by a certified catechist.
- Be recommended by Pastor, Parish Catechetical Leader, or master catechist.

The Office of Religious Education provides formation for the certification of catechists in accordance with the guidelines established by the California Catholic Conference of Bishops.
