Go on Pilgrimage

July 2025

We come as pilgrims to this place, and we ask the Virgin of Guadalupe to be a mother to us, and to renew us in the love of her Son.

-Archbishop Gomez

Nearly 300 pilgrims from across the Archdiocese of Los Angeles joined Archbishop José H. Gomez on the sixth annual Archdiocesan pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. The pilgrims ranged from a family of seven to those celebrating milestone anniversaries and birthdays and 12 men discerning the priesthood. This year’s pilgrimage was especially significant as it’s during the 2025 Jubilee Year which occurs every 25 years as a time of prayer, pilgrimage, and pardon and this year was designated by Pope Francis as a time for Catholics throughout the world to renew as “Pilgrims of Hope.”

Archbishop Gomez celebrated a special Mass at the Basilica on Saturday, July 5, at 11 a.m. (PT) – you can see the livestreamed above. During the Mass, hundreds of prayer petitions were offered to Our Lady of Guadalupe which had been collected from the faithful throughout the Archdiocese since May – collected at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels’ Chapel of the Relic of the Tilma of St. Juan Diego, all 11 locations of the Catholic Cemeteries & Mortuaries, and online.

Today we lay all our cares at the feet of Our Lady. And if we open our hearts today, if we fix our eyes on Our Lady’s, we will hear her tender words to St. Juan Diego:

– Archbishop José Gomez

In times of fear, Mary makes us a promise

As we stand before this sacred image of Our Lady, in the presence of our Mother, we tell her very simply and with all our heart that we love her with all our heart and soul.

In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, we enjoy a rich history of pilgrimages to holy sites. They are times set aside to deepen our faith, give thanks for the many blessings in our lives, and pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
