Note: This is a Part-Time position (25 hours/week)
St. Philip Neri School is a TK – 8 Catholic elementary school located in Lynwood, CA. We are currently seeking a dynamic, compassionate and dedicated educator to teach P.E. to students in Grades TK – 8. The instructor will be responsible for advancing students’ physical ability and knowledge of different sports and games as well as help develop teamwork and sportsmanship qualities.
Key duties include:
- Designing and supervising practical PE lessons, including both indoor and outdoor classes
- Ensuring that children compete to their ability level and aren’t exposed to unnecessary injury or illness through school sports
- Motivating school children to take up new sports or athletic pursuits
- Evaluating the performance of students throughout the school year
- Attending parent evenings and special school events
- Providing good communication with parents with comprehensive reports on their child’s progress
- Working with parent coaches throughout the year to help train and coach afterschool sports for CYO (grades 5th – 8th) in the following sports: Volleyball, Co-ed Flag Football, Basketball, Soccer. Students compete in the LA Archdiocese CYO intramural games (games may take place after school and/or weekends).
- The teacher may also assist the Principal in an administrative coordinating role as Athletic Director to coordinate parent volunteer coaches and continue strengthening our sports program.
The applicant should be self-driven, able to collaborate with grade level team members, have strong classroom management skills, effective written and oral communication skills, and dedicated to partnering with parents. The candidate is open to serve in any capacity according to the needs of the school. The ideal candidate must be a team player dedicated to their professional growth and values the philosophy and mission of Catholic education. As a model of our faith, they are also willing to take part in the community life of the school and parish.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher)
- Valid teaching credential (single- or multiple-subject) and/or Master’s Degree in the field of education or subject related field is preferred, but not required. Candidates in the process and enrolled in a teacher preparation program are welcomed to apply.
- At least 2 or more years of teaching preferred
- Willingness to grow professionally and attend trainings as needed
- Possess a valid CPR/1st Aid Certification
- Additional Requirements for Clearance and to receive a CYO Coach Card (valid for 3 years):
- Pass Criminal Background Check (Fingerprinted with the Archdiocese of LA)
- Complete Virtus Class Training (3 hour course – valid for four years)
- Attend the CYO Play Like a Champion (PLC) Course (2 hours)

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
