Immaculate Heart is a Catholic, independent, college preparatory middle and high school dedicated to the intellectual vitality, spiritual growth, moral strength, and social-emotional development of its students.

We are currently seeking a Librarian/Media Learning Center Supervisor. In collaboration with the High School and Middle School principals, the Librarian/Media Learning Center supervisor will work towards integrating 21st-century information literacy competencies throughout the teaching and learning process. The Librarian/Media Learning Center Supervisor will instruct students and staff in effective use of the media center, information and technology literacy and use of equipment and databases while creating and maintaining a school library/media center that provides an inviting, safe space that is conducive to teaching and learning.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a school library media program that addresses 21st century skills, including life and career development, learning and innovation, and information, media and technology literacy.
  2. Actively promotes reading, information literacy skills and information resource use through lunchtime and after school activities including book clubs, reading programs, homework help.
  3. Under the direction of the High School and Middle School Principals, collaborates with the faculty to design and implement teaching and learning activities that reflect the best in current research and practice in ways to implement 21st century information literacy.
  4. Conducts bibliographic instruction and teaches information literacy skills across the curriculum.
  5. Works with the Director of Educational Technology and school leadership to develop after school programming to assist students with research and learning.
  6. Supervises students in the Library/Media Learning Center.
  7. Assists students, faculty and staff in the use of library materials and reference databases.
  8. Assists with printers in the Library/Media Learning Center
  9. Research services and resources to support information literacy across the curriculum. Meets with high school and middle school teachers to determine needs.
  10. Develops the annual Library/Media Learning Center budget and makes recommendations to school leadership for purchases.
  11. Keeps current and in good condition the entire library collection. Updates collection as necessary; culls collection on an annual basis, replacing items that are worn and donating items that are no longer relevant or those age inappropriate.
  12. Provides reference services, develops programming, displays, and media to engage students and other members of the community in reading and activities that foster critical thinking skills and life-long learning.
  13. Maintains a professional and student-centered look in the Library/Media Learning Center.

Contract:

  • 10 month teaching position (hours 10:30am-6:30pm)

Requirements

  1. Experience with instruction on information and technology literacy skills, including the research process
  2. Communication skills, including the ability to proactively collaborate with students and staff
  3. Ability to work with teachers to create research assignment lesson plans for grades 6-12 across the curriculum
  4. Develops resource collections for research assignments, grades 6-12 across the curriculum
  5. Ability to provide research instruction to grades 6-12 across the curriculum
  6. Knowledge of curriculum development processes and learning theories
  7. Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Library Science, Library Media, Technology, or a related field of study. Master’s Degree preferred.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
