Job Summary:
The IT Support Specialist provides technical assistance and support to students, teachers, and staff in a high school environment. This role ensures that computers, networks, and educational technology function smoothly, enabling effective teaching and learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Support: Assist teachers, staff, and students with hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Device Management: Maintain and troubleshoot school-issued devices, including desktops, MacBooks, iPads, and projectors.
- Network & Wi-Fi Support: Ensure reliable internet access across the school by troubleshooting connectivity issues and maintaining network infrastructure.
- Software & Educational Tools: Support learning management systems (LMS), student information systems (SIS), and other educational software.
- Cybersecurity & Data Protection: Help implement and enforce school IT security policies, ensuring compliance with student data privacy laws.
- User Training & Documentation: Provide basic IT training to teachers and students on safe and effective use of technology. Create user guides and FAQs.
- Classroom Technology Support: Assist with audio-visual equipment used for teaching.
- Help Desk & Ticketing: Manage support requests through a ticketing system, ensuring timely resolution of IT issues.
- System Monitoring & Maintenance: Perform regular updates, patches, and backups for school IT systems.
- Collaboration: Work with school administrators to implement new technology initiatives.
Recommended Skills & Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience with Windows, macOS, and iOS.
- Familiarity with school technology tools such as Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft 365, and interactive classroom technology.
- Basic networking knowledge (Wi-Fi, DHCP, DNS, firewalls).
- Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
- Ability to work with students and teachers in a patient and supportive manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
- IT certifications (CompTIA A+, Google IT Support, or similar).
- Experience in an educational environment or K-12 IT support.
- Familiarity with student information systems (SIS) and learning management systems (LMS).
Work Environment:
- On-site role within a high school.
- May require occasional after-school or weekend support for special events or system maintenance.
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
