Job Summary & Essential Functions:
The Head Football Coach holds a key responsibility for ensuring that every aspect of the football program embodies the mission and values of Bishop Alemany High School. This on-campus position reports directly to the Athletic Director and may include duties such as substitute teaching, student support, and athletics program coordination.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manages and supervises football activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in football skills, team skills, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
- Creates practice plans that prioritize fundamentals, conditioning, and game readiness and collaborates with assistant coaches to organize strength and conditioning schedules and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Establishes a program environment and framework that nurtures healthy competition and supports the spiritual, physical, and mental growth of all team members.
- Encourages spiritual development and team cohesion by incorporating prayer and reflection.
- Ensures all appropriate measures are taken to safeguard student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilitates.
- Collects paperwork (permission form, medical release, emergency card) from each athlete before allowing him/her to participate in any manner and forwards paperwork to Athletic Director.
- Supervises all assistant coaches regarding professionalism, ethics, and adherence to school, CIF, CAA, and league policies.
- Conducts ongoing evaluations of the coaching staff and program, coordinating improvements and adjustments based on findings and evolving needs.
- Regularly consults with the Athletic Director and, following their guidance, organizes the procedures and operations of the program to ensure a consistent and effective policy for its proper functioning.
- Works with Athletic Director to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements.
- Serves as a positive ambassador for Bishop Alemany High School at all meetings, games, clinics, and community events and partners with families, alumni, and booster clubs to strengthen program relationships.
- Collaborates with HR to ensure all Assistant Coaches meet ADLA Guidelines.
- Performs any other duties assigned by the Athletic Director and School Administration.
Requirements
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Experience mentoring student-athletes
- A minimum 5 years of experience as a high school varsity or higher-level football coach is required.
- Catholic High School and/or Head Coaching experience preferred.
- High School Diploma
- ADLA Live Scan and VIRTUS certification (provided)
- TB Test
- First Aid & CPR Certifications
Compensation for this position is based on policy and budget. We consider a number of factors including, but not limited to, skills set, experience, training and department needs.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
