ABOUT NOTRE DAME HIGH SCHOOL

Notre Dame High School, a Catholic, college preparatory school sponsored by the Congregation of Holy Cross, educates the hearts and minds of students who are diverse in ethnicity, talent, and culture. OVERVIEW OF POSITION

The DEI Director is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the President and the Principal and serves as a member of the senior leadership team, academic council, and admissions committee, working in collaboration with other members of senior administration. The DEI Director is a highly visible presence in the school community, engaging individually and collectively with students, faculty, staff, and the greater community. Guided by Catholic Social Teaching and the Holy Cross Constitution principles, the DEI Director will lead faculty, staff, students, and parents in best practices for growing hospitality, justice, and community belonging. Because the DEI Director will play a key role in strengthening the classroom experience by helping teachers become more culturally competent and more adept at culturally responsive pedagogy, he or she will be expected to engage faculty in one to two professional development sessions each semester.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates with administrative team members to create a strategic DEI plan that incorporates best practices, supports our Catholic identity and Holy Cross Mission, and leads to improved cultural competence and awareness among administration, faculty, staff, and students. Will also work to develop quantifiable metrics of diversity and equity to help track growth and improvement.
  • Assists the Principal, Vice Principal of Instruction, Vice Principal of Academic Affairs, and Department Chairs in assessing and further developing a more inclusive and culturally inclusive curriculum.
  • Supports faculty, staff, and administration by providing resources and assistance in areas such as developing lesson plans, developing awareness of bias, advising on issues that may surface in the classroom or through our daily interactions on campus, and assist with discussions of sensitive material.
  • Leads and/or coordinates faculty and staff professional development and capacity building to advance the work of improving diversity, equity, and inclusion practices inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Supervise and mentor the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Associate, providing guidance and support to ensure alignment with the school’s DEI objectives, Holy Cross Charism, and Catholic Social teachings.
  • Actively participates in the recruitment and hiring of faculty, implementing strategies that promote diversity and inclusion to attract a wide range of candidates.
  • Supports the Admissions Directors in attracting families and retaining families from underrepresented backgrounds while welcoming all new families and helping to build a culture of inclusion. Serves as a member of the Admissions Committee.
  • Works with campus leaders to assess and ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout all areas of student life, including co-curricular and extra-curricular programs.
  • Curates and facilitates programs like the Lunch and Learn series, integrating DEI principles with Catholic Holy Cross social justice issues to foster meaningful discussions among faculty, staff, and students.
  • Oversees DEI programming, student affinity groups, and student engagement initiatives to ensure they have the resources and guidance to foster a more inclusive school environment.
  • Oversee an employee Diversity Task Force of thought leaders who can collaborate and help support the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Continues community partnership connections with organizations and community leaders that can foster the growth of the DEI program.
  • Works with the Board of Directors to provide education, leadership, and updates to ensure that the Board is aware of areas of progress and improvement to meet the school’s strategic objectives.
  • Aids in conflict resolution and serves as a resource for restorative justice practices on issues related to instructional practice and student conduct.
  • Serves on appropriate school committees and invest in school life by attending assemblies, games, concerts, galas, and other school events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, Master’s preferred
  • At least five years of experience in DEI, Campus Ministry, Student Services, etc, in high schools preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of DEI, DEIJ, DEIB, work, and restorative justice practices
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate complex issues and manage employee conflict resolution
  • Ability to work with highly confidential information is critical to this position
  • Strong research and analysis skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills required; experience with Google Suite preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with Catholic Social Teaching

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
