General Description
Responsible for the comprehensive catechetical program, sacramental preparation and ministry for middle and high school students. Work with Director of Faith Formation to foster a community of faith and welcome to teens and families. Create and foster opportunities for youth to interact and worship with all age groups and cultures at OLA.
Reports to: Pastor and Director of Faith Formation
- Attend regular staff meetings
- Communicate to staff about youth ministry activities and events
- Work with DFF to insure a comprehensive family catechesis including parent formation meetings and retreats
- Develop and facilitate a Youth Leadership Team, which is responsible for support and implementing of ministry programs
- Coordinating the recruitment, training, supporting, and evaluating of volunteers in the youth ministry program
- Developing an annual and intentional plan for middle and high school catechesis that utilizes a creative variety of formats, settings, and timeframes
- Provide a yearly comprehensive ministry calendar, timely communicate calendar and events to DFF, parents, teens and volunteers
- Providing resources (print, video, web, diocesan events) for effective programming
- Providing appropriate training for the adults and young people in leadership positions
- Develop and coordinate the confirmation sacramental preparation program, including program registration, retreats, sponsor and parent meetings, rehearsals
- Fostering the involvement of young people in the life of the parish, including serving at various parish events and programs and being involved in parish activities
- Serving as the liaison with the ADLA office of youth ministry and their programs, services and resources
- Facilitate annual Keeping the Promise Alive program to all middle and high school youth programs
- Serve on the Safeguard the Children Committee
- Keep yearly records of all volunteers fingerprinting and VIRTUS training as per Archdiocese Guidelines
- Without exception, and in all youth ministry events and in communication with youth, implement and monitor all ADLA guidelines for adults and youth working with minors
- Youth ministry budget and administration
- Weekly bulletin collaboration with DFF
- Manage YM Instagram
- Perform other related YM duties as required by Pastor and or DFF
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Formation:
- B.A. in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, or related field
- Knowledge of Catholic teachings, catechesis and documents on sacrament of confirmation preparation and youth ministry
- Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with a strong commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in coordinating and or leading youth ministry, middle school and confirmation preparation
- Experience working with teens and parents
- Experience in recruiting, leading and supporting volunteer team
Language Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in composing reports, correspondence and emails
- Ability to develop and facilitate youth programs and confirmation sessions; ability to read and understand church documents and guidelines.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read, prepare, and manage budgets for major events and programs; prepare annual budget for youth ministry
- Coordinate fundraising events for ministry
- Ability to solve problems, make sound decisions, and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, email communication and calendar management
- Catechist training and certification
Other Requirements:
- Knowledge of Church structure and culture
- Knowledge of current youth culture and current trends and issues within those cultures
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Complete VIRTUS training and fingerprinting background check
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Ability to lift and carry materials for events and set up
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
