Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Cheer Coach to lead our 3rd–8th grade cheer program. The ideal candidate will have experience working with elementary and middle school-aged children, a strong background in cheerleading, and the ability to coach 2–3 competitive routines across 2–3 different skill levels or teams. This individual will embody the values of a Catholic school and serve as a positive role model on and off the mat.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead one weekly practice (lasting 2 to 2.5 hours) for multiple cheer teams (divided by age/skill level).
  • Choreograph and coach 2–3 competitive cheer routines, tailored to each team’s level.
  • Prepare teams to participate in 3–4 cheer competitions during the competitive season.
  • Add additional practices as needed during the competition season to ensure readiness.
  • Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and Christian values at all times.
  • Collaborate with school staff, Athletic Director, and parents to support student-athletes.
  • Ensure all activities are safe, age-appropriate, and aligned with the school’s mission.
  • Attend and coach at all competitions, showcases, and school events as required.
  • Uphold the mission and faith values of Our Lady of the Assumption School.

Requirements

Season Timeline:

  • Tryouts begin in August.
  • Competitive season runs from January through early May.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Prior experience coaching or participating in cheerleading (youth or school-level preferred).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and motivate young athletes of various ages and abilities.
  • Familiarity with Catholic school values and willingness to support faith formation goals.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before the season starts).
  • Background check and Safe Environment Training (as required by the Diocese).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience choreographing cheer routines for competition.
  • Background in dance, gymnastics, or athletic instruction.

Time Commitment:

  • One practice per week (2–2.5 hours).
  • Additional practices added as needed during the competition season.
  • 3–4 competitions on select weekends.
  • Additional events and performances as needed during the season.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
