St. Margaret Mary Alocoque School is a TK-8 private Catholic elementary school in Lomita, CA. Our mission is to educate and inspire children to achieve their best academic, social, and life skill potential, while instilling in every child a deep and abiding commitment to the principles of the Catholic faith.
SMMAS is seeking a dynamic, professional and compassionate first grade teacher who is committed to creating a safe, organized, and respectful learning environment. The ideal candidate will design and implement student-centered, standards-based lessons across core subject areas such as Language Arts (reading and writing), Mathematics, Religion, Social Studies, and Science. This educator will foster a classroom atmosphere rooted in Catholic values, encouraging students to develop strong character, critical thinking skills, and a love of learning.
The successful candidate will:
- Design and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans that are aligned with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles curriculum, California Common Core Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards.
- Foster a faith-filled classroom environment that integrates Catholic values and teachings.
- Create a positive and respectful classroom environment
- Integrate technology and multimedia into instruction where appropriate
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning styles and needs
- Establish positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and Parish staff to create a strong classroom and school community
- Collaborate with grade level team of teachers and school administration to support student growth and school-wide initiatives
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with parents and school leadership
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree (BA, BS) from an accredited university or college.
- Valid CA Multiple Subject Teaching Credential (or in progress)
- Previous teaching experience preferred
- Practicing Catholic preferred
- Strong skills in setting up routines, behavior expectations, and communication to support student success

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
