The Catholic Bible Institute presents a Saturday morning lecture, Understanding Job, with Dr. Israel McGrew of the Augustine Institute. Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 10am to 11:30am Pacific Time (via Zoom).
In this talk, we will explore the literature and theology of the book of Job, its framing of the problems of evil and human ignorance and in its speculations about the afterlife and the ultimate significance of human suffering. And we will situate the book in the unfolding of the divine teaching, in its historical context and in its anticipation of the revelation of Christ’s incarnation, passion, and resurrection.
Cost: $10
Dr. Israel McGrew is an Old Testament scholar at the Augustine Institute of Theology, and specializes in the Book of Job. He is also especially interested in bringing Biblical Studies into a deeper dialogue with the Church’s traditional, Christological readings of the Old Testament.
He is currently writing a book on Job’s parabolic dramatization of Israel’s scriptural and mythological traditions titled, The Riddle of Job: Parabolic Argumentation in the Book of Job.
