Los Angeles Catholics to Celebrate World Day of the Sick in Dedication to Our Lady of Lourdes

The Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles will celebrate the annual World Day of the Sick Mass this year at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels.

The February 10 Mass will feature an anointing of the sick and blessings for caretakers. Attendees will receive holy water from Lourdes, and prayer petition cards that will be taken to the Our Lady of Lourdes grotto in France.

report from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles says that this year’s theme for the Mass will be “A Spiritual Journey to Lourdes.” The World Day of the Sick is usually celebrated on February 11, coinciding with the liturgical feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, the french Marian shrine known for its numerous healing miracles.

This year, since the feast falls on a Sunday, the Day has been moved to the previous Saturday.
