Abortion
Every human life is sacred. The dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. This belief underscores the principles of our Catholic social teaching. Yet in our society, abortion threatens the life of unborn children every day. Many states, including ours (California), have laws that allow the direct killing of unborn children through abortion. Instead of supporting mothers, our laws pit one life against the other. Women should never be forced to choose abortion. As long as our country offers legal abortion, there is no motivation to fix the failures in our society which lead women to choose abortion. In order to change people’s hearts and minds we must share our doctrine and help others understand that each and every human person has value and is worthy of respect. Our laws should reflect our values as a society and seek to protect and support women and their unborn children.
