Luis Hayes was giving a guided tour of St. Joseph School, where he serves as principal, when he paused.
“The timing is auspicious,” he said. “We’ve been really blessed.”
Good fortune can sometimes be found amid awful circumstances. The Catholic school in La Puente was already planning on a renovation that began April 16, some 70 years to the day from its opening in 1950.
Then the face-lift took on a different tone because of the coronavirus pandemic — one of safety for when students return for in-person classes.
