“At our annual meeting this week, my brother bishops and I issued a statement on the government’s immigration enforcement actions. I urge you to read it prayerfully. As pastors, this issue is not about politics but about the sanctity and dignity of human life. Every human being is a child of God, created in God’s image, and redeemed by Jesus Christ. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and spoken about with charity. We are praying for political leaders, law enforcement officers, and especially our immigrant brothers and sisters, who are living in fear. May Our Lady of Guadalupe help us to come together as one nation to reform our broken immigration system.”

U.S. Bishops Issue a “Special Message” on Immigration from Plenary Assembly in Baltimore

The bishops issued a Special Message addressing their concern for the evolving situation impacting immigrants in the United States. It marked the first time in twelve years the USCCB invoked this particularly urgent way of speaking as a body of bishops.
