More than 100 churches across the Archdiocese of Los Angeles hosted celebrations marking Simbang Gabi, a Filipino tradition that celebrates the nine days leading up to Christmas with the celebration of the Mass, novenas, and food.
This year’s theme was “Come, Lord Jesus, Our Hope and Light Amidst the Darkness of the World.” The celebration kicked off on Monday, Dec. 15, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels with a 5:45 p.m. celebration of traditional music and the Parade of Parols, followed by Mass celebrated by Archbishop José H. Gomez. The parols, a Philippine Christmas symbol, were at the end of Mass.
