Lent: Day 16

“Which of you knows the date of your baptism?” Pope Francis asked a crowd gathered in St. Peter’s Square during a 2019 Angelus. While mostly everyone knows the date of his or her birth, few of us know the exact date of our birth in Christ Jesus.

Why is knowing that date important?

“We must always have that date in our memory, because it’s a date of celebration, it’s the date of our initial sanctification; it’s the date in which the Father gave us the Holy Spirit who pushes us to walk; it’s the date of the great forgiveness,” the Holy Father has said.

This Lent, make it a point to learn the date of your baptism and the circumstances surrounding it. Who was present? Who are your godparents? Is there any opportunity to build or strengthen your relationships with them? Commit to celebrating the gift of baptism on that date each year.

Aunque en su mayoría todos conocen la fecha de su nacimiento, pocos de nosotros sabemos la fecha exacta de nuestro nacimiento en Jesucristo.

¿Por qué es importante saber esa fecha?

“Siempre debemos tener esa fecha en nuestra memoria, porque es una fecha de celebración, es la fecha de nuestra santificación inicial; es la fecha en la que el Padre nos dio el Espíritu Santo que nos empuja a caminar; es la fecha del gran perdón”, dijo el Santo Padre.

Esta Cuaresma, busca aprender la fecha de tu bautismo y las circunstancias que la rodean. ¿Quién estuvo presente? ¿Quiénes son tus padrinos? ¿Hay alguna oportunidad de construir o fortalecer tus relaciones con ellos? Comprométete a celebrar el don del bautismo en esa fecha cada año.
