Saint Monica Preparatory is a coeducational, Catholic TK-12th grade school in the heart of Santa Monica, CA. The parish school is a ministry of the vibrant St. Monica Catholic Community located seven blocks from the ocean. Saint Monica Preparatory is seeking a Head Athletic Trainer to lead the health, safety and athletic care of our student-athletes. The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for student-athletes in 16 interscholastic sports across multiple levels.
The successful candidate will serve as the primary healthcare professional for the athletics program and will work collaboratively with coaches, administrators, physicians, parents, and student-athletes to promote health, safety, and athletic performance.
Responsibilities
- Develop plans for providing athletic training coverage at all interscholastic events.
- Devise and post a schedule for the daily hours of operation of the athletic training facility.
- Provide first aid and emergency care for injured student-athletes.
- Oversee the maintenance, monitoring, and training related to all AEDs on campus.
- Provide/coordinate athletic training services for home games, away football games, playoff games and other select games.
- Must have a flexible schedule to accommodate changing practice/game schedules as well as a willingness to work weekends and school holidays.
- Organize and implement annual pre-participation sports physicals.
- Assists in collecting, organizing, and maintaining all mandated medical forms required byschool, section, and state governing bodies.
- Maintain computerized medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures.
- Develop and implement emergency action plans for athletic venues.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding athletic injuries, treatment plans, rehabilitation progress, and return-to-play recommendations as appropriate.
- Develop, oversee, and implement concussion management protocols in accordance with CIF, state, and current medical best practices, including baseline testing, return-to-learn, and return-to-play procedures.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for Athletic Injury Management.
- Establish and maintain a budget for athletic training supplies and equipment.
- Establish a working relationship with a designated team physician and community physicians.
- Communicate with coaching staff as well as athletic administration regarding injuries to student- athletes.
- Collaborate with the Director of Athletics, coaches, physicians, and families regarding rehabilitation plans and return-to-play decisions for injured student-athletes.
Requirements
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Physiology, or related field
- Master’s degree (preferred)
- NATA BOC certified
- Experience working within CIF policies and procedures preferred.
- Experience communicating with parents/guardians regarding athletic injuries and return-to-play procedures preferred.
- Emergency Cardiac Care certification
- 3+ years of experience (preferred)
- Comprehensive knowledge of athletics and high school athletics programs (preferred)
- Experience working with High School Athletes (preferred)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion while handling sensitive matters Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 20-50 pounds.
- Ability to sit, stand, and/or move around the working environment as needed.
- Ability to travel safely and comfortably around our campus.
- Ability to use a keyboard (or an alternative input device) and other office equipment.
- Ability to read information in printed material, on a computer screen, and/or on a mobile device/laptop for extended periods of time.
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
