Our Lady of Refuge School is TK-8 school located in East Long Beach, California. The school was founded in 1953 and has provided excellence in education for over 70 years.
We are currently seeking a Principal to lead our family-centered school community. Working closely with a dedicated faculty and staff, the Principal will provide leadership in the following four domains:
- Academic Excellence
- Leadership and Governance
- Operational Vitality
- Mission and Catholic Identity
Preferred candidates will have experience in all domains and be able to serve as an instructional leader rooted in a well-formed Catholic identity. An ability to work well with a team of dedicated professionals and stakeholders is a vital aspect of the Principal’s role. Nurturing relationships with current families, developing relationships with future families and engaging with long-time parishioners and alumni will be essential to success as the leader of our school.
In this leadership role, the Principal will be expected to work as part of the parish staff, and will receive fiscal oversight from the Parish Finance Council. Effective oversight of the school budget, advocacy for careful stewardship of school resources, and engaging in sustained efforts to foster development is required.
This position will work directly with the Pastor/Administrator.
Requirements
- Practicing Catholic
- Minimum 5 years of teaching experience OR 3 years working at a non-profit organization in a leadership role
- Earned Master’s Degree OR State Approved Teaching Credential
- Catechetical Certification to be completed by the first two years of leadership
- This leadership position is an on-site and in-person position

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
