St. Bernard Catholic School is seeking a faith-filled, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to join our Summer Learning Program. This temporary position will run from June 29, 2026, through July 30, 2026, Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The ideal candidate will provide engaging instruction that strengthens students’ reading comprehension, writing skills, grammar, vocabulary development, and critical thinking. The teacher will support students through targeted intervention, skill development, and enrichment activities designed to prepare them for success in middle school and high school coursework.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, English, Liberal Studies, or related field preferred
Strong understanding of:
- Reading comprehension strategies
- Literary analysis
- Academic writing
- Grammar and sentence structure
- Vocabulary development
- Differentiated instruction
Ability to:
- Assess student learning and provide targeted support
- Develop engaging and rigorous ELA lessons
- Strengthen reading comprehension and written communication skills
- Support struggling readers and writers through intervention strategies
- Create a positive, structured, and academically focused classroom environment
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Commitment to helping students grow in confidence and academic achievement
- Practicing Catholic preferred or willingness to support the Catholic mission and values of the school
- Fingerprinting and Safe Environment training are required through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
