Description

Teacher is responsible for the general supervision and management of preschool age children; planning and executing the educational program to reflect current learning and liturgical calendar in accordance with the purpose and goals of St. Catherine Laboure Preschool.

Qualifications:

  • Preferably have a minimum of 6 months of experience in childcare, teaching or other relatable fields
  • Ability to work and maintain a positive outlook with other adults in a teamwork environment
  • Ability to develop a high-quality, age appropriate curriculum and foster spiritual, physical, emotional, cognitive and social development
  • Positive and patient demeanor
  • Ability to build rapport with fellow staff, children and parents
  • Able to exercise effective communication in a respectful manner with children and adults
  • Ability to assist with physical activities, including but not limited to moving large toys and/or equipment, as well as assisting children during outdoor activities
  • Able to actively supervise by moving around the classroom, walking around during outdoor play, as well as snack, lunch and naptime.

Expectations and Responsibilities:

  • The Teacher is primarily responsible for program planning and lesson plans.
  • Develop curriculum and schedules to ensure adequate learning, physical activity, rest and playtime
  • Provide lesson plans to the Director by Friday for the following week -Maintain a bright, interesting, child-centered classroom that also promotes diversity
  • Coordinate with Director for Parent-Teacher conferences once each program year
  • The teacher is responsible for program implementation, supervision of age-appropriate activities and curriculum to promote spiritual, social, emotional, and physical growth of preschool children
  • All Teachers are responsible to insure the safety and well-being of the children at all times. Must be alert to the needs and/or problems of children individually or in a group
  • Maintain a fun and safe environment for learning
  • The Teacher is primarily responsible for communication with the Director, staff, parents, and the children for their respective classroom
  • Conduct/record monthly fire, earthquake and lock-down drills as scheduled
  • Maintain First Aid and CPR certification
  • Classroom/areas are set up daily prior to student arrival
  • Maintain classroom, storage areas, and bathrooms in a clean, neat and orderly fashion
  • Attend school functions, such as orientation, conferences, school programs, open house, staff meetings, preparations/in-service training, as required by Director
  • Seek opportunities for professional growth by attending available conferences, workshops, and classes related to early childhood education -Respect the belongings, time, and feelings of others who work in the program/or school
  • Empower teacher aides/an or assistants with responsibilities
  • All Teachers are expected to maintain an understanding of appropriate boundaries amongst children and working with families
  • Maintain a respectful Christian attitude in parent/teacher/child/staff relationships

Communication Expectations with Children, Parents and Staff:

  • Communicate at eye-level as often as possible
  • Help and encourage children to use problem solving skills in order to Promote independency
  • Be clear and consistent with behavior guidance
  • Participate in scheduled conferences
  • Keep parents informed on an informal basis regarding progress and concerns for each child
  • Maintain a welcoming environment for students and parents
  • Listen to parents carefully and validate feelings and/or concerns -Bring any matter of questions or concerns to the Director immediately
  • Respect teaching techniques of others
  • Willingness to consider new ideas, share talents, techniques and materials as well as receive feedback from others

Requirements (12 completed core semester units in child development-3 units in each course of the following):

  • Program Curriculum

Extended requirements:

  • VIRTUS Certification
  • Background Check and Fingerprinting clearance through ADLA
  • CPR/Pediatric and First Aid Certification
