Department: Performing Arts
Reports to: Department Chair
Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Position Start Date: August 2026

Position Overview

We are seeking a Part-Time Technical Director for our 2026-2027 production season, which includes three concerts, two theatrical productions, and up to three other small events. This person should possess exceptional interpersonal skills and ensure and implement all safety protocols and policies within our theatre space. With a strong collaborative spirit, a successful candidate will manage all technical aspects of Marymount’s performing arts productions.

Because a TD may be called upon to deal with a wide range of technical issues, he or she benefits from a working knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures of theatre, dance, and music productions and presentations, including stage, set, sound and lighting design and implementation; stage management; computerized lighting systems; stage carpentry; appropriate safety precautions and procedures.

  • Operates, maintains, and safeguards the technical assets of the theatre, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities.
  • Determines the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates.
  • Designs, sets up, maintains, and operates lighting and sound systems for theatre, dance, music, and other productions and projects; assists guest designers and arts with technical matters.
  • Supervises and assists with set and stage construction and management.
  • Monitors the condition of equipment, including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Assists with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies.
  • Attends technical Week rehearsals to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of mounting the show

Ongoing Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with theater, dance, and music instructors.
  • Attend all department and production meetings.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and storage areas.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with an emphasis in Technical Theatre
  • 2 to 3 years of relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of construction and set design
  • Working knowledge of lighting design
  • Working knowledge of stage rigging
  • Working knowledge of audio and sound
  • Working knowledge of stage management/or production management
  • Working knowledge and clear understanding of professional standards of stage safety

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
