Description
Our Lady of Refuge School is seeking an innovative and collaborative Part-Time STEM Teacher for Grades 5–8 for the 2026–2027 school year. The ideal candidate is passionate about inquiry-based learning, hands-on science instruction, and integrating engineering, technology, and problem-solving skills within a faith-centered learning environment.
The STEM teacher will guide middle school students in exploring scientific concepts through experimentation, creativity, and critical thinking while supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach advanced standards-based middle school STEM/science curriculum for Grades 5th –8th
- Design and facilitate hands-on labs, engineering challenges, and project-based learning
- Integrate technology and real-world applications into STEM instruction
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Assess student learning and provide timely and constructive feedback
- Collaborate with faculty to support cross-curricular STEM initiatives
- Maintain an organized, engaging, and safe classroom environment
- Support and uphold the Catholic mission and values of the school
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (science, STEM, engineering, or education preferred)
- Valid California teaching credential or eligibility preferred
- Experience teaching middle school science or STEM preferred
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Commitment to Catholic education (practicing Catholic)
Employment Requirements
- Completion of Archdiocese of Los Angeles fingerprinting and background check (by August 1st, 2026)
- Virtus / Protecting God’s Children certification (by August 1st, 2026)

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
