Description
Our Lady of Refuge in Long Beach is a vibrant Catholic school serving students in Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade, seeks a faith-filled, enthusiastic, and talented Music Teacher and Choir Director. The ideal candidate will inspire students to appreciate and express themselves through music while integrating Catholic values and traditions into the music program. This role includes teaching general music classes across all grade levels and directing choirs for school liturgies, concerts, and community events.
Requirements
- BMUS or BA degree with emphasis in Music Education, or related field (MA preferred).
- Valid teaching credential (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience in choral directing and classroom music instruction.
- Strong vocal and piano skills (or guitar); ability to accompany students is a plus.
- Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction for TK–8 students.
- Teach music theory, rhythm, vocal technique, and instrumental basics.
- Direct and rehearse student choirs for school Masses, liturgical celebrations, and performances.
- Coordinate and lead musical components of school-wide events, including Christmas and spring concerts, talent shows, and graduation ceremonies.
- Select and arrange music that supports Catholic liturgical seasons and school themes.
- Collaborate with teachers, parish staff, and administration to integrate music into the broader faith and academic life of the school.
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and creativity.
- Maintain classroom instruments, equipment, and music resources.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and upcoming performances.
- Knowledge of Catholic liturgy and sacred music repertoire.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
- Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
