Description
Church of the Good Shepherd, a Roman Catholic parish in the Diocese of Los Angeles, seeks a qualified and experienced Organist to provide musical leadership for parish liturgies and special celebrations.
The successful candidate will possess a thorough understanding of Roman Catholic liturgical worship and demonstrate exceptional organ performance skills in support of congregational song, choral music, and the sacred liturgy.
The successful candidate will…
- serve as principal organist for weekend Masses, Holy Days of Obligation, and other parish liturgies.
- accompany the parish choir for rehearsals and liturgical celebrations.
- provide organ music for weddings, funerals, and special diocesan or parish events as requested.
- collaborate with clergy, music ministry director, cantors, and choir members in coordinating and executing liturgical music.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency in organ performance, with confident execution on the both the manual and pedal keyboards, demonstrating mastery of pedal technique and independent pedal performance.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Roman Catholic Mass, liturgical seasons, rites, and worship traditions.
- Ability to lead and support congregational singing through effective registration and interpretation of traditional hymns, plus contemporary liturgical music and song. This includes ability to clearly articulate solo melody lines when appropriate.
- Strong experience accompanying choirs and performing a broad range of sacred choral repertoire from traditional to contemporary styles.
- Ability to improvise appropriate interludes or accompaniment to liturgical action.
- Excellent collaborative, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
