Music Teacher Job Description
St. Paul the Apostle Catholic School, a TK-8 school in Los Angeles, CA, is looking for a music educator to teach music class for the TK – 8th-grade students during the 2021-2022 school year. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching in a Catholic elementary and/or middle school setting. Job duties include teaching: rhythm, music theory, a variety of musical forms, and appreciation for music from diverse cultures.
Preparing students for, and participating in, school liturgies will also be required.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic, creative teacher who demonstrates an enthusiasm for working with elementary and middle school-aged students, a commitment to innovative pedagogy, and familiarity with solfège. The teacher will prepare students for school liturgies, the annual Christmas Pageant in December, as well as a performance/concert in late Spring, to name a few.
Ability to provide accurate appropriate vocal model for young singers
Ability to accompany singers on one or more instruments including piano or guitar
Ability to teach the structure of music, the performance of vocal and instrumental music, and creativity in music through composing and improvising at the developmental level appropriate for each grade of elementary school
Ability to communicate to students, school staff, parents, and community members in, about, and through music
Summary of Duties/Responsibilities:
Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
Establishes and maintains the cooperation of the school administration standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the school and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
Identifies student needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Regularly communicates with parents on the individual student’s progress.
Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school, and with specified educational partners.
Using a wide- array of formative and summative assessments.
Weekly Gradebook updates.
Meeting the deadlines and submission of all materials not limited to course syllabus, weekly lesson plans, and final grades
Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees.
Performs other significant duties as may be reasonably assigned.
