Description
St. Mark School is seeking candidates for elementary/middle school religion teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Saint Mark School is a non-profit, non-discriminatory school of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in the heart of Venice, providing Catholic education according to the standards established by the Archdiocese and certified by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA). Saint Mark School takes pride in its strong academic program. Our goal is to help our children become active and confident learners who respect themselves, others and the environment. Our graduates have the academic and spiritual foundation to become responsible and well-informed citizens of the world.
- Religion at St Mark is both an academic subject and a formative experience. Students explore Catholic teachings, scripture, and moral reasoning while also developing habits of reflection, empathy, and service.
- The middle school religion program includes classroom instruction as well as opportunities for retreats, prayer, and student leadership experiences that help students connect faith with daily life.
- We are looking for an educator who can teach Catholic theology thoughtfully while creating space for meaningful discussion, reflection, and spiritual growth.
Responsibilities include:
- Implement a comprehensive religion curriculum aligned with Archdiocesan standards
- Guide students in exploring scripture, Catholic teachings, and moral decision-making
- Foster thoughtful discussion and reflection on faith, ethics, and service
- Plan and facilitate middle school faith formation experiences
- Create a classroom environment that promotes respect, reflection, and community
- Track and analyze student progress using a variety of assessment tools
- Communicate regularly and effectively with families
- Collaborate with the middle school team and contribute to the broader school community
Requirements
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of Catholic theology and Church teachings
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree in theology or divinity from an accredited university
- Be able to prepare and implement lesson plans, instruct students using an effective classroom management style, monitor student progress, evaluate student performance, and maintain accurate student records
- Experience facilitating meaningful classroom discussions with middle school students
- Have an understanding and ability to implement California and Archdiocesan Standards;
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Comfort integrating technology into instruction
- Middle school teaching experience preferred
- Willingness to reflect, adapt, and grow professionally
- Be an active Catholic in good standing with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Additional requirements: Virtus Certified; Live Scan through ADLA; TB Neg. Test Result; CPR Certification(preferable); Catechetical Certification (preferable)
St Mark School offers a competitive salary that is above the ADLA teacher’s salary scale, in addition to medical, dental and vision benefits and participation in a 403b retirement program.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
