St. Bernard Catholic School is seeking a faith-filled, nurturing, and collaborative Long-Term Substitute Teacher for Second Grade beginning as soon as possible. The ideal candidate will provide structured, engaging instruction while supporting students academically, socially, and spiritually in a Catholic school environment.
This position will focus on strengthening foundational skills in reading comprehension, writing, and mathematics while maintaining a positive and organized classroom environment. The long-term substitute teacher will work closely with grade-level teachers and administration to ensure continuity of instruction and support student success.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field preferred
- Classroom teaching experience preferred
- Experience working with elementary-aged students
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Ability to provide instruction in:
- Reading comprehension
- Foundational writing and grammar
- Elementary math concepts
- Ability to follow lesson plans, maintain instructional pacing, and support student learning goals
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with staff and families
- Practicing Catholic preferred or willingness to support the Catholic mission and values of the school
Ability to maintain a structured, caring, and faith-filled classroom environment
Fingerprinting and Safe Environment training are required through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
