Bishop Alemany High School is a Catholic College Prep high school located in the San Fernando Valley.
BAHS is seeking a full-time, long-term, substitute to cover the following courses:
- AP Computer Science (Periods 3)
- Intro to Coding (Periods 5 and 6)
The Long-Term Substitute would be expected to cover additional classes for the school, on an as needed basis each day. Classes meet daily on an alternating block schedule each week.
Description of position:
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer science, a passion for education, and the ability to inspire students to explore the world of technology. The substitute will be responsible for following and implementing the computer science curriculum prepared by the current teacher as well as fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
Primary duties:
- Teach and execute provided lessons in AP Computer Science and Introduction to Coding that align with state and national computer science standards.
- Assess and evaluate student progress, providing constructive feedback to support their learning and growth.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of grades, attendance, and student performance.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities as needed.
- Foster a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to learning for all students.
Requirements
Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Education, or a related field. Master’s degree in that field preferred but not required.
- Proven experience teaching at the high school level.
- Strong knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is preferred.
- Familiarity with computer science education frameworks and best practices is preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.

The selected candidate must pass an employment background check and complete all required trainings and certifications. Compensation for this position is based on policy and budget. We consider a number of factors including, but not limited to, skills set, experience, training and department needs.
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
