Description
Description: The Lead School Nurse works with the Health Clerk to maintain the school’s overall health and safety program.
School Health Program:
- Promotion of overall school community health through education and wellness initiatives.
- Direct care and emergency response including administration of first aid to injured or ill students, assess injuries, manage acute illnesses, and lead in emergency medical situations.
- Medication administration for medications that are provided and approved by parents and health care providers, including chronic condition management for students with conditions such as diabetes, allergies, or asthma.
- Health screenings and prevention program coordination.
- Vaccination and immunization management ensuring all students are up to date.
- Health education and counseling about nutrition and hygiene and collaboration with the school counseling team for mental wellness issues.
- Document provision of care.
- Maintain health records and prepare reports.
- Maintain health office supply and equipment inventory and orders replacements with approval from the Administration.
- Coordinate care, referrals and follow-up.
- Manage communicable disease control programs and prevention.
- Take a lead role in the school’s emergency and disaster preparedness and during emergency situations, such as and not limited to natural disasters, threats on campus, etc. including classroom emergency backpacks.
- Assist front office staff with chronic absenteeism tracking and follow-up.
- Maintain all office forms current and stocked.
- Communicate with faculty/staff, as directed and needed.
- Perform general filing of paperwork/forms.
- Maintain health room bulletin boards.
Requirements
- RN required
- First aid & CPR certification required
- Pediatric, emergency, or community health experience preferred.
- Prior experience as a school nurse preferred.
- Basic computer skills/software programs, including Gradelink, Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, electronic communication, etc.
- Strong assessment skills and independent decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Willingness to engage in a supportive manner is a must.
- Strong organizational skills in record management and task priority setting.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
