Description
Alverno Heights Academy Lower School is seeking a positive, energetic, and collaborative individual to serve as a First Grade Teaching Assistant / Instructional Aide.
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The First Grade Teaching Assistant works closely with the lead classroom teacher to support student learning, small-group instruction, classroom routines, and the overall educational experience of our first-grade students.
Requirements
Candidates must:
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Have prior experience working with children in a school, childcare, camp, tutoring, or similar setting
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
- Be able to work effectively with young children in both individual and group settings
- Demonstrate patience, professionalism, reliability, and sound judgment
- Be able to follow teacher direction while also working independently when appropriate
- Be comfortable using computers, tablets, classroom technology, and common educational applications
- Be able to maintain student confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Be able to actively supervise students throughout the school day
- Be able to perform the physical duties associated with working in an elementary school environment, including standing, walking, bending, and assisting with classroom materials and activities
- Successfully complete all school-required background screening, fingerprinting, and mandated training prior to employment
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates who have:
- An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or college coursework in education, child development, psychology, or a related field
- Experience working with kindergarten through second-grade students
- Experience supporting early literacy, phonics, writing, and foundational mathematics
- Experience working with diverse learners and differentiated instruction
- Experience supporting students in small-group instructional settings
- Experience with educational technology and digital learning tools
- Previous experience as a teaching assistant, instructional aide, paraprofessional, tutor, or classroom volunteer
- The ideal candidate is dependable, flexible, proactive, team-oriented, and enthusiastic about helping young children learn and grow.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
