St. Bernard High School is now accepting applications for a Spanish teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. The ideal candidate must possess current knowledge of the subject matter and have the ability to engage students using various teaching strategies. Strong skills in planning, organizing, and developing a curriculum that meets the needs of all learners are essential for this role. The teacher will be responsible for Spanish 1, Spanish 2, and Spanish 3 courses. Additionally, the selected candidate will collaborate effectively with colleagues to ensure that the goals of the Spanish department align with the school’s mission.

SUMMARY OF MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Foster a safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Build professional knowledge.
  • Organize classroom systems and procedures, and manage student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning.
  • Create an atmosphere where students are excited about learning and preparing for college.
  • Have experience with proficiency-driven curriculum design and understanding of ACTFL and/or CEFR frameworks.
  • Prepare lesson plans for substitute teachers.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians.
  • Be detail-oriented when tracking students’ grades and attendance.
  • Collaborate with the Principal and Assistant Principal to ensure that teaching methods are aligned with and exceed educational standards.

Skills and Abilities

  • Fluent in Spanish.
  • Familiarity with the cultural products and practices of Spanish-speaking communities.
  • Understanding of diversity in society, including various abilities, cultures, languages, ethnicities, and gender orientations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Regular attendance, reliability, and punctuality are essential for successful performance in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching responsibilities will include three sections with at least one prep period.
  • Actively participate in the World Language Department’s efforts on curriculum alignment, development, and implementation.
  • Teach three sections of Spanish, providing feedback and grade reports while communicating with parents, students, and colleagues about student progress.
  • Attend department and faculty meetings as scheduled.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • At least 1 year of high school experience

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Spanish
  • Credential: General Secondary or Single Subject.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
