Description

St. Paul High School, a co-educational Catholic college preparatory high school in Santa Fe Springs, is considering applications for a Science Teacher for the 2025-2026 academic school year. Candidates should be dedicated teachers who are willing to commit to academic excellence and uphold Catholic values.This is a full time position for Chemistry and/or Biology courses, and a possible AP Environmental Science course. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a physical/life science or related field. Preference will be given to applicants with experience teaching high school science, with a current teaching credential and/or Masters Degree.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach 4–5 sections of science at various levels (exact courses TBD)
  • Plan and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons aligned with NGSS standards
  • Assess student learning through varied and authentic means
  • Foster a classroom environment that promotes respect, inclusion, and a love of science learning
  • Participate in school-wide activities, professional development, and department meetings
  • Support and contribute to the school’s Catholic identity and mission

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a physical/life science, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Preferred: State teaching certification or equivalent (or in the process of obtaining) OR graduate units in related field
  • Previous teaching experience at the high school level is strongly preferred
  • Strong commitment to Catholic education and values
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Maintains a commitment to academic excellence.
  • Comfortable working in a faith-based environment, and willing to uphold Catholic values.
  • Participates in workshops, conferences, and other professional development opportunities to stay current on teaching methods and trends in education.
  • Participates in faculty committees and sponsors student activities as needed.
  • Supports the safety and learning environment of the school by performing other duties as assigned.

Instruction:

  • Uses a variety of assessments (formative, summative, and benchmark) to track and ensure student learning.
  • Adheres to academic deadlines (course syllabus submission, grade reporting, final exam assessment submission, etc.)
  • Willing to support an inquiry-based approach to student learning.
  • Collaborates with faculty to analyze student learning data and improve instruction within a professional learning community.
  • Participates in curriculum development and collaborates with educational partners.
  • Preferred: Experience with AP course expectations.

Classroom Management & Student Support:

  • Establishes and maintains classroom behavior standards for an orderly, productive environment.
  • Provides individual and small-group instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Incorporates a variety of modalities to engage different student learning styles.
  • Creates and maintains a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • Identifies student needs and works with school counselors and parents/guardians to address health, attitude, and learning challenges.
  • Supervises students during out-of-classroom activities as required.

Communication & Technology Integration:

  • Regularly communicates with parents and school counselors regarding student progress.
  • Updates gradebook weekly and meets reporting deadlines.
  • Preferred: Experience with Google Suite (Google Drive, Google Classroom, etc.)

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
