Description
Core Responsibilities
- Program Leadership
- Oversee all levels of the cheer program (varsity, JV, possibly youth clinics)
- Develop team goals, culture, and standards
Practice & Skill Development
- Plan and conduct regular practices
- Teach cheer techniques, stunts, tumbling, and choreography
- Ensure proper progression and skill safety
Game & Event Support
- Prepare squads for football, basketball, pep rallies, and school events
- Coordinate performances and sideline routines
Student-Athlete Development
- Promote teamwork, discipline, leadership, and sportsmanship
- Monitor academic eligibility and student conduct
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safety standards for stunting and conditioning
- Maintain injury protocols and emergency procedures
- Ensure adherence to league and CIF rules
- Administrative Duties
Manage uniforms, equipment, and budget
- Communicate with athletic director, parents, and school staff
- Organize tryouts and team selection
Requirements
Experience & Skills
Previous cheer coaching experience (high school or competitive level preferred)
Strong knowledge of:
- Stunting techniques and safety
- Choreography and routine building
- Sideline and competition cheer formats
- Leadership and team management skills
Education
- High school diploma required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (especially in education, kinesiology, or related field)
Other Requirements
- Background check and fingerprint clearance (standard for school employees)
- Availability for:
- After-school practices
- Evening games
- Weekend competitions/events
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
