St. Margaret Mary Alocoque School is a TK-8 private Catholic elementary school in Lomita, CA. Our mission is to educate and inspire children to achieve their best academic, social, and life skill potential, while instilling in every child a deep and abiding commitment to the principles of the Catholic faith.
SMMAS is seeking a well-rounded, energetic, and passionate middle school (6th-8th grade) teacher who is team-oriented and willing to collaborate with others to enhance student learning. The ideal candidate will be able to teach ELA (reading and writing), Religion, Social Studies, and/or Science. This role involves creating and implementing a curriculum that inspires curiosity, encourages critical thinking, and supports academic rigor for all students.
(Note: The final teaching schedule will consider the candidate’s strengths, in conjunction with the skill sets of the other members of the middle school team.)
The successful applicant will:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the unique social-emotional development of Middle School students.
- Design and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans that are aligned with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles curriculum, California Common Core Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards.
- Foster a faith-filled classroom environment that integrates Catholic values and teachings.
- Create a positive and respectful classroom environment
- Integrate technology and multimedia into instruction where appropriate
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning styles and needs
- Establish positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and Parish staff to create a strong classroom and school community
- Collaborate with the middle school team of teachers and school administration to support student growth and school-wide initiatives
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with parents and school leadership
Requirements
The minimum requirements are:
- An undergraduate degree (BA, BS) from an accredited university or college.
- Valid CA teaching credential (or in progress)
- Previous upper elementary/middle school teaching experience preferred
- Practicing Catholic preferred
- Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction
- Strong skills in setting up routines, behavior expectations, and communication to support student success

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
