Description
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Gardening Teacher to design and deliver engaging, hands-on gardening education for students of various age groups. The ideal candidate will foster environmental stewardship, teach sustainable gardening practices, and inspire a lifelong appreciation for plants, food systems, and the natural world.
- Plan, develop, and deliver structured gardening lessons aligned with educational goals.
- Teach practical skills such as soil preparation, planting, composting, pruning, pest management, irrigation, and harvesting.
- Integrate topics such as sustainability, ecology, nutrition, and climate awareness into lessons.
- Supervise and maintain school gardens, greenhouses, or outdoor learning spaces.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of tools, equipment, and gardening materials.
- Promote safe gardening practices and maintain compliance with health and safety guidelines.
- Assess student progress through practical demonstrations, projects, and reflective activities.
- Collaborate with other teachers to integrate gardening into regular class subjects.
- Organize seasonal planting schedules and garden-based events.
- Encourage teamwork, responsibility, and environmental awareness among students.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Education, or related field (preferred).
- Teaching credential (preferred).
- Practical experience in gardening, horticulture, or sustainable agriculture.
- Experience working with children or young adults in an educational setting.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
