St. Bernard Catholic School is seeking a caring, dependable, and faith-filled Full-Time Kindergarten Instructional Aide for the 2026–2027 school year.
Under the direction of the kindergarten teacher and school administration, the instructional aide will assist with classroom instruction, student supervision, small-group learning, classroom organization, and the social, emotional, spiritual, and academic development of kindergarten students.
The ideal candidate understands the developmental needs of young children, demonstrates patience and warmth, and can maintain high expectations within a nurturing and structured classroom environment. The instructional aide must work collaboratively with the classroom teacher and support the Catholic mission, policies, and instructional priorities of St. Bernard Catholic School.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist the kindergarten teacher with implementing daily lessons, classroom routines, and learning activities.
- Provide individual and small-group support in early literacy, phonemic awareness, reading readiness, handwriting, mathematics, and other foundational skills.
- Reinforce concepts previously introduced by the classroom teacher.
- Help prepare instructional materials, classroom centers, bulletin boards, student folders, and learning activities.
- Support differentiated instruction for students with varying academic and developmental needs.
- Observe student progress and communicate relevant information to the classroom teacher.
- Assist students with transitions, organization, and the development of age-appropriate independence.
- Help establish and reinforce classroom expectations, procedures, and positive behavior.
- Supervise K-8 students during arrival, dismissal, recess, lunch, restroom breaks, assemblies, Mass, field trips, and other assigned activities.
- Promote students’ safety and well-being throughout the school day.
- Assist students with basic personal-care needs when developmentally appropriate.
- Maintain an orderly, clean, safe, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Assist with copying, filing, organizing student work, and maintaining classroom supplies.
- Support school events, programs, and activities as assigned.
- Maintain student confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Perform additional duties reasonably related to the position as assigned by the teacher or administration.

- Work cooperatively with teachers, staff members, families, and parish personnel in support of the school’s Catholic mission.
Requirements
- BA/AAin Early Childhood or Adolescent Education preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree, college coursework in child development, early childhood education, or education preferred.
- Previous experience working with kindergarten or elementary-aged children strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate instructional practices preferred.
- Ability to follow teacher directions and reinforce established instructional plans.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain patient, calm, attentive, and professional when working with young children.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of an instructional team.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality are required.
- Basic computer and educational technology skills preferred.
- Practicing Catholic preferred; all applicants must respect and support the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Successful completion of fingerprinting, background clearance, Safe Environment training, and all Archdiocese of Los Angeles employment requirements.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to:
- Stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, and move throughout the classroom and campus for extended periods.
- Work at a child’s physical level when assisting students.
- Supervise students indoors and outdoors.
- Lift and carry classroom materials and equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
- Respond promptly to student safety and supervision needs.

The Kindergarten Instructional Aide must:
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with faculty, staff, students, and parents.
- Follow all school policies, procedures, safety requirements, and administrative directives.
- Accept feedback and participate in training or professional development as assigned.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students and families.
- Work cooperatively under the direct supervision of the kindergarten teacher and school administration.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
