Description

The Faith Formation Coordinator provides leadership and vision to develop and nurture a ministry for youth as they grow in the Catholic faith. This full-time position is designed for a passionate, dynamic leader committed to nurturing the spiritual and personal growth of the youth in our parish community (church & school).

Under the direction of the Pastor and Director of Administration, the Faith Formation Coordinator is responsible for the following:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

The following tasks are considered essential functions of the position. To perform the job successfully an employee must possess the abilities and aptitude to perform each duty proficiently.

Children and Family Ministry

  • Coordinates and supports a team of adult catechists for the Children Ministry. This includes recruiting and providing training, resources, materials and administrative support.
  • Provide catechesis, leadership training, and spiritual development opportunities for all leaders in the ministry.
  • Support and provide the catechists and volunteers with the curriculum, syllabi and schedule for Children Ministry Grades 1 through 5 and Children’s Liturgy of the Word.
  • Coordinate with the School Principal and Second grade teacher to ensure unity between the school and the parish in the preparation of First Reconciliation and First Communion sacraments for second grade students.
  • Plans and facilitates all aspects of sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion, including meetings, workshops, retreats, rehearsal, and liturgy.
  • Work with Family Ministry Leader to create calendar

Middle School and High School Youth Ministry

  • Recruit and develop a strong team of adult volunteers and peer leaders for Youth Ministry and Confirmation. Empower them to engage in relational ministry with our teens.
  • Plan, coordinate and teach weekly Middle School Faith Formation nights and biweekly Youth Nites
  • Establish a relationship with St. Rita School as an opportunity to welcome middle school teens into the Parish Middle School Faith Formation and introduction into Youth Ministry and Confirmation.
  • Plan 8th Grade Retreat
  • Organize and execute the yearly conference opportunities and various parish participation activities.
  • Create calendar for the sessions and events.

Confirmation

  • Direct, plan and implement a two-year Confirmation program according to the Directive of the Bishop.
  • Research, write, organize and teach the materials for Confirmation 1 and 2
  • Recruit and train Confirmation facilitators, if needed.
  • Provide Christian service projects and community builder events; St. Francis Center, faith sharing events, dinners and speakers.
  • Organize and create a yearly Confirmation Retreat for Confirmation Candidates (one for YR1 and one for YR2).
  • Organize intergenerational sessions for Confirmation Candidates and their Sponsors/Parents.
  • Create calendar for the sessions and events.

Parish Ministries

  • Assist the Family Ministry Coordinator with the Ministry Mastermind Meetings to gather, pray, share, collaborate, brainstorm, connect and troubleshoot.

Other Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all registration for the students
  • Maintain effective working relationships with parents through monthly communications, providing them with resources and opportunities for their on-going faith formation, and supporting their roles as their child’s primary catechists at home.
  • Acts as the liaison between adult faith formation ministries to parish staff, supporting with resources and administrative items as needed.
  • Serves on the Liturgy Committee to coordinate and facilitate all youth participation in liturgies.
  • Administrative duties include developing and managing budgets; producing and maintaining registration paperwork; providing information pertinent to sacramental records; and managing communications in the parish bulletin, eblast, social media and on the website.
  • Attends regional and archdiocesan meetings, workshops, and conferences relevant to the position and approved by administration.
  • Member of the Safeguard the Children committee maintains a current Virtus status, and maintains records for volunteers in the Faith Formation ministries.
  • Regular weekend and evening work is expected.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with Parish and School staff and all other ministries to coordinate activities as appropriate.
  • Actively support philosophy and goals of the Church; attends services; assists with ministries and similar activities.
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality of church records and conversations.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Education or a related field is preferred.
  • Active member of the Roman Catholic faith community with strong understanding of Catholic teachings and traditions.
  • Proven ability to develop and lead religious education programs and spiritual formation activities.

  • Evangelization Education and Training
  • Certification as a Catechetical Leader
  • Certificate in Advanced Youth Ministry Studies, Advanced Ministry Studies or a Master Catechist (preferred).
  • Minimum of five years of significant experience in youth ministry or education.
  • Successful completion of Safe Environment process.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • General office procedures, familiarity with office equipment (computer, copier, fax machine, adding machine) and excellent spelling and grammatical skills.
  • Above average typing/word processing skills, excellent organization skills and the ability to understand and follow instruction, as well as to work independently.
  • Cordial and effective communication with priests, parishioners, vendors, committee members, officers of Church Councils, school faculty and families, and Diocesan office personnel is an ongoing necessity.
  • Trustworthiness, reliability, willingness to maintain confidentiality and the ability to complete routine and delegated assignments in a timely matter are essential.
  • Social media skills for publicity various media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
  • Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Canva, Adobe and Google Docs.

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
  • Sit for sustained periods of time on a daily basis
  • Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking
  • Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands and arms

WORKING SITUATIONS
May require some variable hours and on-call response after regular business hours to meet the needs of the Parish; requires some weekend, holiday and evening work for events, or the ability to arrange coverage. These times include Christmas season, Holy Week/Easter, fundraisers, after Mass functions, etc. Local travel for business purposes may also be required.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
