Founded in Los Angeles in 1955, the Lay Mission-Helpers Association is a Catholic lay mission organization dedicated to forming, sending, and supporting lay missionaries who serve in partnership with mission dioceses around the world. Rooted in Gospel values, LMH empowers lay professionals to live and work in solidarity with global communities in need.

We are seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of growth and service.

Position Overview

The Executive Director works in close collaboration with the LMH Board of Directors and staff to advance the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. This leadership role oversees all programs, operations, finances, fundraising, and public representation of LMH. The Executive Director ensures that LMH remains a respected, vibrant, and financially sustainable Catholic lay mission organization.

Reports to: LMH Board of Directors
Status: Exempt, Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

  1. Board Administration & Governance
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Board and staff.
  • Advise and inform the Board, ensuring strong communication and transparency.
  • Collaborate with the Board President to develop agendas for Board and Executive Committee meetings.
  1. Program & Service Delivery
  • Oversee the design, implementation, evaluation, and promotion of LMH program.
  • Ensure high-quality program delivery and alignment with LMH’s mission.
  • Support program modifications and outreach efforts.
  1. Financial, Tax, Risk & Facilities Management
  • Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic planning with the Board.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and present recommendations for approval.
  • Ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources in compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Oversee insurance policies, including D&O, liability, and workers compensation.
  1. Human Resources
  • Provide strong leadership to LMH staff, fostering a collaborative and mission-driven culture.
  • Oversee personnel policies, performance reviews, and staff development.
  1. Community & Public Relations
  • Represent LMH to external stakeholders, partner organizations, church leaders, and the broader community.
  • Communicate LMH’s mission and work through public speaking, media engagement, and outreach.
  • Build and maintain relationships with LMH alumni (“veterans”), donors, partners, and diocesan leaders.
  1. Fundraising & Development
  • Maintain and grow relationships with current donors through personal outreach and communication.
  • Expand the donor base and develop new funding streams, including unrestricted and planned gifts.
  • Write, manage, and report on grants; cultivate relationships with foundations.
  • Oversee donor records, segmented mailings, and gala/events coordination.
  • Lead the Mission Cooperative Plan, representing LMH as a speaker at parishes and Catholic events.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic fundraising plan.
  1. Records & Compliance
  • Maintain key organizational records, including conflict-of-interest documentation for Board and staff.

Requirements

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 5–10 years of leadership experience in nonprofit administration.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising and development.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and team-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Cross-cultural experience and sensitivity.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of Catholic Church teachings, structure, and mission work.
  • Ability to travel within the U.S. and internationally.

Preferred

  • Experience with missionary work, international service, or Catholic ministries.
  • Strategic planning, financial management, and board relations experience.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
