English Instructor – (March 2026 to June 2026 – teacher LOA)

Description: Loyola High School is a premier Catholic, Jesuit high school in Los Angeles that is one of the top-ranked Catholic high schools in California. We are accepting applications from individuals who seek a long-term substitute teaching position. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of effective communication, collaboration, and successful teaching pedagogy.

Subject taught: English

Primary duties: The teacher will teach a five periods of a combination of English 2 and AP English 4 (Literature & Composition). This will involve lesson planning, lesson presentation, student assessment, and individualized student support as needed. Faculty members are also part of a professional learning community for one period. The individual will develop, plan and present lessons to students in a classroom, utilizing course material and other appropriate learning material. The individual will supervise, monitor, and evaluate students. In addition, the individual will establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom, maintain appropriate and timely records of student progress, communicate with parents, and establish and maintain an effective environment for students, in order to foster learning

Additional duties: Teachers are also expected to support the school’s spiritual program by assisting with retreats, school-wide liturgies, and/or community service programs. The teacher is expected to be significantly involved in the school’s co-curricular programs by moderating activities and/or clubs as well as prefect at various dances and athletic events. The teacher will also assist in exam proctoring, classroom substitutions, and lunchtime perfecting.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in English or related field.

Highly Desirable: Teacher preparation and/or a teacher credential, as well as experience teaching in a high school setting, is highly desired.

Other desirable qualities: Graduate degree in English or related field.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
