Description

The English Teacher will design and implement a rigorous, standards-based English curriculum that develops students’ reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills. The ideal candidate will create an engaging and supportive classroom environment that challenges students academically while nurturing their personal and spiritual growth.

Faculty at SGMHS serve not only as teachers, but also as mentors and role models who actively contribute to the mission of Catholic education in the Dominican tradition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach college-preparatory English (including honors/AP as assigned) and another humanities course. Design and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with Archdiocesan and state standards.
  • Develop students’ skills in literary analysis, composition, research, and critical thinking. Maintain accurate grading, attendance, and timely feedback using school systems (Aeries and Google Classroom).
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Utilize instructional technology and learning platforms to enhance student engagement. Collaborate with English department colleagues on curriculum planning and assessment.
  • Participate in school liturgies, retreats, service programs, and community events. Serve as a positive, faith-filled presence and mentor within the school community.

Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field (required)
  • Valid California Teaching Credential (preferred or in progress)
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience or equivalent educational experience preferred
  • Commitment to the mission of Catholic education
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
  • Experience with differentiated instruction and diverse learners
  • Proficiency with educational technology and digital learning platforms
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, students, and families
  • Commitment to ongoing professional, personal, and spiritual growth

Desired Qualities

  • Passion for teaching literature, writing, and critical thinking
  • Ability to build meaningful, faith-centered relationships with students
  • Enthusiasm for contributing to extracurricular activities, clubs, or athletics (preferred)

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
