Description

The Director of Religious Education is responsible for the religious education program of the parish for adults, youth and children as designated by the pastor. The position is full-time, 35 hours weekly, non-exempt.

As representative of the pastor, the DRE manages program content, staff and budgets; coordinates with other parish ministries and activities. Responsibilities include:

  • Review, evaluate, and develop the Parish Religious Education Programs, mission statements, long- and short-range goals and objectives;
  • Engage with the parish community to evaluate and carry out its role in evangelization;
  • Apply appropriate principles of human development, especially spiritual and moral and intellectual development, to a catechetical program, and utilize appropriate methodologies of adult-centered and/or child-centered learning.
  • Provide access and inclusion for children with special learning needs;
  • Recruit volunteer catechists, and implement or support a program of catechist formation according to the Archdiocesan certification norms;
  • Involve the family as an essential agent in the faith formation process, especially in the faith formation of children and adolescents;
  • Use media and technology for effective program implementation and communication;
  • Incorporate service opportunities, and reflections on these experiences, in catechetical programs for adults, adolescents, and children; especially linking such opportunities to the fostering of peace and justice;
  • Provide opportunities for participation in prayer, personal spiritual development and communal worship;
  • Initiate and maintain accurate records on students, families, catechists and other participants;
  • Supervise a support staff in the Religious Education Department.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education, theology or general education is preferred.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT:

  • Archdiocesan certification through the Advanced Catechetical Ministries Program (ACM) or Master Catechist Program;
  • A university certificate program in catechetical leadership;
  • Three years of recent catechetical experience;
  • A record of attendance at Archdiocesan or Regional workshops and seminars for ongoing education.

ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE:

  • Executive responsibility as employee or volunteer;
  • Experience in coordinating adult volunteers;
  • A record of attendance at workshops and seminars in management and administrative skills.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
