Description
Junipero Serra High School, a Catholic college preparatory school in Gardena, California, is accepting applications for the position of Dean of Students for the 2025-2026 academic year. The Dean of Students is appointed by and is responsible to the Principal and Vice Principal for the general discipline and Christian conduct of the student body. This position is a key leadership role in fostering a positive school culture, promoting student character formation, and ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment in alignment with the school’s Catholic mission. The Dean of Students serves as a member of the Administrative Council, Discipline Board and works closely with faculty, staff, students, and parents to uphold the expectations of the school community.
In addition to administrative responsibilities, this position also requires teaching 1–3 courses as assigned by the Principal, based on the candidate’s qualifications and the school’s academic needs.

SUMMARY OF MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative Duties
- Assists the Principal in the annual revision of the Parent/Student and Personnel Handbooks.
- Directly supervises the Registrar to ensure proper data entry of attendance into PowerSchool, timely notification of absences, truancy, and disciplinary referrals.
- Directly supervises the Detention Coordinator to ensure accurate record-keeping and consistent enforcement of disciplinary actions.
- Manages and audits student property assignments, including lockers and confiscated items.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Student Behavior & School Safety
- Develops and maintains disciplinary policies and practices to ensure complete student supervision, including during arrival, assemblies, lunch, departure, and transitions between classes.
- Ensures the collection of all required school forms, including Parent-Student Handbook acknowledgments and releases.
- Leads the development and implementation of the school’s Annual Emergency Plan and coordinates regular safety drills.
- Coordinates with local law enforcement to maintain student safety on and around campus, particularly during school-sponsored events.
- Acts as the school liaison with police departments, courts, and public agencies to facilitate student discipline and safety measures.
- Ensures faculty participation in student supervision during passing periods, lunch, and school-wide events.
- Intervenes in disciplinary incidents within the classroom through direct or indirect student-parent-faculty conferences.
Student Discipline & Character Formation
- Oversees the administration of all disciplinary actions and consults with the Principal in cases requiring suspension or expulsion.
- Administers student suspensions as required by school policy. Refers students with ongoing infractions to the Discipline Review Board for further action.
- Enforces student discipline through detention programs and Character Camps to maintain consistency in disciplinary expectations.
- Maintains detailed records of all disciplinary actions, including referral slips, contracts, parent notifications, and corrective measures.
- Monitors student attendance and tardiness, ensuring compliance with school policies and referring cases of excessive absences for disciplinary action.
- Enforces the school’s dress code and personal appearance standards.
Faith & Professional Expectations

- Maintains professional growth through ongoing professional development.
- Serves as a role model of faith, integrity, humility, and accountability.
- Participates in faculty committees, school events, and student activities.
Perform any other duties assigned by the principal.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field.
- Experience in student discipline, behavior management, or administrative leadership.
- Strong knowledge of high school disciplinary policies, restorative justice, and student development.
- Ability to work with diverse student populations and foster a positive school culture.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2 years of administrative experience
- Teaching Credential and/or Masters degree in Education, Counseling, Administration, or a related field.
- Experience working in a Catholic school or faith-based educational setting.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Salary Range:
- “$47, 402 – $81,613; Compensation commensurate with level of experience, relevant professional certifications, and/or degrees earned.” ○ Salary Range set forth by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
