Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School – Montebello, CA

Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School, a Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Chemistry Teacher for the upcoming school year. The ideal candidate is passionate about science education, committed to student growth, and enthusiastic about teaching in a Catholic school environment that forms students academically, spiritually, and morally.

This position includes teaching two College Preparatory Chemistry classes, one Honors Chemistry class, and two Pre AP- Algebra 1 classes.

Mission Alignment

Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School forms students in faith, character, and academic excellence. Faculty members are expected to support and uphold the school’s mission: “We act in the character of Christ.” The ideal candidate is comfortable teaching in a Catholic school setting and supporting the spiritual and moral development of students.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach five sections consisting of:
    • Two College Preparatory Chemistry classes
    • One Honors Chemistry class
    • Two Pre AP-Algebra 1 classes
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and best instructional practices
  • Create and maintain a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment that supports student learning
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills that promote student accountability and engagement
  • Incorporate instructional strategies that include differentiation, checks for understanding, and support for diverse learners
  • Integrate technology effectively in instruction, including the use of Google Workspace applications and Canvas
  • Assess student learning regularly and maintain accurate and timely grading records
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administration regarding academic progress and student needs
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the science and math departments and across disciplines to support student success
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide events
  • Complete all assigned teacher supervision duties and responsibilities as part of maintaining a safe and supportive campus environment
  • Support the broader life of the school through participation in community activities, events, and student formation opportunities
  • Maintain a positive and professional classroom environment that reflects the values of Catholic education

Salary

  • $47,402 – $81,613
  • Compensation commensurate with level of experience, relevant professional certifications, and/or degrees earned
  • Salary range set forth by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related science field required
  • Master’s degree preferred but not required
  • Experience teaching high school science or math preferred
  • Comfortable integrating technology in the classroom, including Google Workspace and Canvas
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and contribute positively to a professional learning community
  • Commitment to engaging instructional practices that support student learning and differentiation
  • Comfortable working in a Catholic school environment and supporting the mission and values of the school

Archdiocese of Los Angeles Requirements

Candidates must meet the professional and ethical standards required for educators in schools of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, including:

  • Compliance with Archdiocese of Los Angeles employment requirements
  • Completion of background clearance and fingerprinting
  • Completion of Virtus / Protecting God’s Children training
  • Commitment to supporting the Catholic mission and values of the school

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
