Position Description
This is a full-time, exempt position and reports to the Cathedral Director of Liturgy and Music. As a member of the Cathedral Liturgy Team, the Cathedral Organist supports a high-quality sacred music program that leads the faithful to the “full, conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations” (Sacrosanctum Concilium, 14), and embodies the Cathedral mission to be “a welcoming community of prayer, worship, and service.”
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Organist for all Masses scheduled at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, to include Sunday and weekday Masses, Holy Days, weddings, funerals, Ordinations and other scheduled liturgies.
- Coordinates and approves music for Cathedral weddings, meets with couples, and schedules professional musicians. (Stipend for weddings.)
- Accompanies Cathedral choirs in rehearsals and liturgies, working in collaboration with choir directors to support singers.
- Coordinates and promotes the Cathedral Organ Recital Series, including the selection of distinguished organists, preparation of recital programs, promotional materials, and related communications.
- Responsible for the care, use and maintenance of the Cathedral organ, pianos and other keyboard instruments. Communicates with Director of Operations regarding repairs, maintenance, tuning and long-term care of the organ and pianos.
- Actively focuses on developing an in-depth knowledge of the Cathedral organ and its capabilities, functions and applications.
- Attends monthly Cathedral Liturgy Team Meetings.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Music with Organ or Sacred Music concentration.
- At least two years of a liturgical music position.
- Practicing Catholic preferred but must have the ability to respect, promote, accommodate, and not be in conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic faith.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in written format and oral presentation; ability to maintain organization, multi-task and establish priorities; exhibits initiative, responsibility and flexibility; knowledge of Microsoft software applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to work collaboratively with all related groups; clergy, parish staff, musicians and volunteers.
- Exercises considerable independence and judgment with a high level of confidentiality, working with sensitive and privileged information.
- Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, resolve complex problems, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities.
- Must successfully pass the required background check and all requirements of the Archdiocesan Program for Child and Youth Protection prior to employment and maintain a satisfactory background check throughout employment.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferable

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
