BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION

The Director of Advancement provides strategic leadership for Notre Dame High School advancement initiatives. The Director of Advancement is responsible for creating the vision, design, and direction of the school’s giving programs. The vision of the Advancement program will foster a robust culture of engagement and philanthropy across the school and community. The aim of the program is to garner maximum support for Educating the Hearts and Minds of Notre Dame students in the tradition of a Holy Cross school. The Director will oversee the Advancement Office staff and will be a part of the school’s Senior Administrative team.

DUTIES

  • Establish and execute a diverse and multi-faceted annual comprehensive Advancement plan in coordination with the President, Advancement Committee of the Board of Directors, and Advancement Team to support the school’s strategic vision.
  • Identify, cultivate and personally solicit key donors annually as part of an Annual Fund and/or Capital Giving Campaign.
  • Develop strategies to promote, solicit and encourage parents to participate in the Parent Advancement Fund program which pays the gap between tuition and actual cost of education.
  • Identify, cultivate and secure new Legacy Society donors annually. Where possible, seek written documentation of the estimated value of planned gift commitments.
  • Prepare individual communication, cultivation and solicitation plans for each major gift donor/prospect to include gratitude phone calls, personal notes, invitations to special events, timing and approach of next cultivational contact or request.
  • Develop and coordinate with the President, Advancement staff and Board Advancement Committee strategies to engage the Board in the identification and solicitation of major gift and planned giving prospects.
  • Develop an Alumni Council in coordination with Alumni Ambassador to engage and strengthen alumni relations and maximize alumni giving and participation.
  • Seek and attend professional development opportunities to stay updated on philanthropy trends.
  • Oversee the management of donor databases and financial records to provide Advancement reports to the President and the Board of Directors.
  • Identify and secure resources that support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within the context of the Mission of Notre Dame High School in the tradition of Holy Cross.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create a calendar that outlines a timeline for all solicitations and Advancement events.
  • Establish Advancement goals with the collaboration of the President, Board and Advancement Committee. Monitor progress in meeting goals against periodic benchmarks.
  • Work with the President and Director of Major Gifts to prepare an annual major gifts plan or case statement, distribute promotion materials for major gift/planned donors and coordinate the reporting of major gift progress.
  • Supervise the creation of materials and web site content that enhance the school’s visibility and reputation with donor constituencies and inform of donors of giving opportunities.
  • Research, and initiate contact with foundations and prepare and review grant proposals in collaboration with administration and faculty.
  • Identify and solicit sponsors for fundraising events.
  • Coordinate and supervise all annual appeals and Advancement events.
  • Prepare the annual Advancement income and expense budget in collaboration with the President and Board.
  • Record Donor visits, calls, and significant donor information in the donor database.
  • Manage and oversee the Advancement Office team.
  • Attend Administration Team meetings to facilitate communication and support with school departments.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree. Master’s preferred.
  • Five years of non-profit fundraising experience, preference given to experience with Catholic secondary schools.
  • Experience soliciting and closing major charitable gifts.
  • Experience developing and implementing annual giving, major gift, planned giving, grants, and public relations programs.
  • Experience with capital fundraising.
  • CFRE is a plus.
  • Ability to manage the Advancement staff and establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse personalities.
  • Experience making effective presentations before groups.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office environments (Word, Excel, Outlook) and donor database software (Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge).
  • High energy; self motivated; ability to meet deadlines.
  • Safe driving record; current vehicle insurance; ability to use personal vehicle for business.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
