Description

St. Mel School is seeking a 6th grade (Middle School) homeroom religion, science, and/or social studies teacher. The candidate must be well-rounded, energetic, and passionate middle school teacher who is team-oriented and willing to collaborate with other to enhance student learning. This role involves creating and implementing a curriculum that inspires curiosity, encourages critical thinking, and supports academic rigor for all students.

The candidate should be a practicing Catholic who is a positive role model. In addition, the candidate should be comfortable with the content area. Responsibilities include the preparation and implementation of lessons aligned with grade level standards, providing feedback through formative and summative assessments, and participation in school life. The candidate should also possess strong communication skills to create a good rapport with students and parents and collaborate with fellow teachers, especially the junior high team.

The successful applicant will:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the unique social-emotional development of Middle School students.
  2. Design and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans that are aligned with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles curriculum, California Common Core Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards
  3. Foster a faith-filled classroom environment that integrates Catholic values and teachings
  4. Create a positive and respectful classroom environment
  5. Integrate technology and multimedia into instruction where appropriate
  6. Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning styles and needs
  7. Establish positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and Parish staff to create a strong classroom and school community
  8. Collaborate with the middle school team of teachers and school administration to support student growth and school-wide initiatives
  9. Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with parents and school leadership

Requirements

The minimum requirements are:

  1. Practicing Catholic
  2. An undergraduate degree (BA, BS) from an accredited university or college.
  3. Valid CA teaching credential (or in progress)
  4. Previous upper elementary/middle school teaching experience preferred
  5. Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction
  6. Strong skills in setting up routines, behavior expectations, and communication to support student success

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
