Position Overview

  • Notre Dame Academy is seeking a 6th–8th English Language Arts Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year.
  • Our middle school humanities program emphasizes strong literacy development, critical thinking, and meaningful engagement with texts and ideas. Students read deeply, write frequently, and develop the skills needed to communicate thoughtfully and effectively.
  • The ELA teacher works closely with the broader middle school humanities team and collaborates with the Humanities Lab teacher, who supports students in strengthening writing, reading, and analytical skills through workshop-style instruction.
  • We are looking for an educator who enjoys helping students think critically, develop their voice as writers, and engage thoughtfully with literature and complex ideas.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implement a comprehensive and differentiated ELA HMH curriculum aligned with California standards
  • Guide students in developing strong reading comprehension, analytical writing, and discussion skills
  • Utilize a variety of instructional approaches including writing workshops, projects, and structured discussion
  • Provide meaningful feedback on student writing and support revision and growth
  • Track and analyze student progress using a variety of assessment tools
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and guardians
  • Collaborate closely with the Humanities Lab teacher and the middle school team
  • Foster a classroom culture that promotes intellectual curiosity and respectful dialogue
  • Contribute to the broader middle school program and school community

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience preferred
  • Teaching credential
  • Strong background in middle school literacy instruction
  • Experience differentiating instruction for diverse learners
  • Strong classroom management and instructional clarity
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Comfort integrating technology into instruction
  • Willingness to reflect, adapt, and grow professionally
  • Preferred qualifications include experience with writing workshop, project-based learning, or interdisciplinary humanities instruction.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
